Cell Phones can turn people into idiots by Jerry Hart
I was sitting in an outdoor patio cafe for lunch and picked up the cell phone to answer a call. Within 30 seconds, the waitress plopped down a note saying,
“As a courtesy to other diners, please take cell phone calls outside the restaurant. Thank you”
The waitress swung by my table again and I asked her why she wouldn’t allow phone calls in a noisy patio cafe. She said, “we haven’t had one complaint when we request you step outside the cafe to use a cell phone.”
I think the policy is outrageous and inappropriate. Sure, they have the right to command a no cell phone zone, just as much as the boy scouts can kick you out of their private organization if you’re gay.
In 2010, we all can be more compassionate, conscious, respectful of others, after all, that is BEING GREEN.
If any place should be a no phone zone, it’s the bank! That’s where people turn into idiots, practically shouting like the person their talking too is a 95 year old with no hearing aid.
At my gym, they restrict phones around the workout equipment and in the locker rooms. I love that! but now, we have patio cafes at lunchtime banning cell phones, when life is moving at light-speed and we all have so much to get done in less time?
Your thoughts please? Is this B.S or am I hallucinating again?
Is this the new green cell phone revolution aimed to get unconscious, un-green, undeniably rude people out of our air space when we eat out?

I have to agree with the Cafe only because we have become so overly obsessed with cell phones and texting that it has gotten out of control. First if I am sitting next to someone at a restaurant of any kind I really dont want to hear their conversation. My question is when did we all become so important that we need to have to be contacted at anytime during the day..I see cleaning people wearing bluetooths as if they are the secret service. Is there going to be life or death window cleaning emergency that they have to be reached within a moments notice. I understand your questioning it as so many restaurants that should inforce this type rule dont so that we people have become so comfortable sharing their conversations with everyone within hearing distance that we have become numb to the fact that we are in public and loud.
Ok thats my opinion..have a good day
