Green Adventures in the Air with Jerry Hart on Smart Green Travel on Green 960 AM San Francisco

zepplin-comparisonHave you seen this behemoth white whale in the sky over the Bay Area? FYI, I was also informed we are not to confuse Blimps, with a Zepplin Air Ship. Yes, at the top of that illustration to the left, the AirShip nearly dwarfs our largest jumbo jets. The Zepplin company, that also built the Hindenburg, is not the same Airship our Great Grandpa’s engineered at the Zepplin plant back in 1925. And, it’s significantly Green, in many ways, one of the safest aircraft in the sky. Who knew? Blimps and Airships, how are they Green, and what’s the difference between the two?

The Zepplin is the largest, and only AirShip in North America, for the average Joe, like you and I, to see the Bay Area, like no other 360 degree visual experience possible.  Some have described it as a ‘personal cloud’ or ‘knowing what birds feel like’. Find out how Airships are a significant part of a post Green world, for example, right now,  one big-momma-of-a-Zepplin-Airship, is assisting in the clean up of our oil spill in the Gulf.

What’s Going Green in Amusement Parks? on Smart Green Travel with Jerry Hart on Green 960 AM San Francisco

harry-potter-theme-park-2Yep, that’s the “Harry Potter Forbidden Journey” ride at Universal in Florida. Buckle up and pull down your harness, for a virtual roller coaster ride on Green in Amusement Parks. Smart Green Travel, hears from America’s biggest Amusement Parks and their Green steps to sustainability in the most wild places.

From Walt Disney World’s 30 tons of food grown at Epcot each month, to Sea Worlds  OSHA Whale Trainer accident investigation, to  Six Flags new baby dolphins in Vallejo, and the beautiful story of what happened to Mom, and one of her baby boy dolphins, when he was born.

Male Penguins, have got it rough! When you visit the newly updated Penguin exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, visit the Penguins for more than ten minutes. Witness the relentless testing of the females during the creation of her nest, insisting that he help her build the nest on her complicated terms. The male penguin, tirelessly, works each long day, hauling twigs and eggs up the mountain, drops them in front of her, and awaits her approval.  She often declines and forces him to leave, once again, down the mountain, to then return to the nest, with something steinhart-aquarium-san-franciscomore to her liking. They are monogamous, and the female is testing her mates endurance, as husband, and father, as he spends all day, for many weeks, climbing a small mountain, in the exhibit, pushing wooden eggs and twigs, up to the Mother’s nest,  only to have her reject his efforts repeatedly. Back down the hill he goes, to start the process all over again.  Male Penguins repeat this pattern countless times a day, and have the most exhausting schedule  I’ve ever witnessed of any animals in captivity. Watch them right now LIVE on the PenguinCAM

steinhart-aquarium-san-francisco-sustainable-roofThe Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco is also dazzling. Nearly 10 years and $500 million dollars in the making, it’s finally here. The new Academy is a masterpiece in sustainable architecture, blends seamlessly into the park’s natural setting, and is filled with hundreds of innovative exhibits and thousands of extraordinary plants and animals.

A  Smart Green Trip down memory lane leads you to memories on the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. One of the last standing Boardwalks in California, still exists, because of the “Green mindset and pride and unity amongst the staff, mixed with a deep conviction and passion, that sustains and attracts millions of us, to this Bay Area time capsule again and again.  The fun is hearing about the new Haunted Castle, the cool Surfer lighthouse museum, that’s open to the public, and just the simplicity, of our historical and nostalgic  Boardwalk

What’s Green?, and what’s new for the entire family at Green Amusement Parks in America,

How bout that “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” at Universal Studios? What aspect of the Wizarding World are you most excited for? What do you hope they include in the park from the books or movies?

dead_041509_-1-5thThe Grateful Dead & The Rocky Mountains - What did the Grateful Dead do in Denver that didn’t happen in any other city?  Is Denver really that Green? Prove it!!! Ok, they did, on Smart Green Travel, it’s all Denver clocking in at #2 for the most Green city I’ve discovered, other than San Francisco.  Denver is sooooooooooo couscous to Being Green. Within just a one mile radius, there are three sports green stadiums, the country’s second largest performing arts complex, an assortment of art and history museums, a mint producing 10 billion coins a year, a river offering whitewater rafting, the country’s only downtown amusement park, a new world-class aquarium, more than 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 300 restaurants, most organic beer brewed per day than any other American city and of course, the music. What the Grateful Dead did in Denver, that’s historical, only on Smart Green Travel, with Jerry Hart.

Ernest Hemmingway once said that THIS BEACH was the World’s Best Beach - Best Green Beaches on Smart Green Travel on Green 960 AM San Francisco

National Geographic joins Smart Green Travel to reveal what is a Green Beach? Plus, I’ll share my Top 10 beaches, the ones to get too, before they become certified green.

I turned to the Clean Beaches Council, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that runs the Blue Wave beach program in the U.S. to identify the top 10 beaches.

Are you tanning with a green conscious? Ready for some swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, or none of that? Smart Green Travel is all about finding places where it’s just you and the sun - that’s all you need, huh?

I can see them, your buns planted firmly on a delightful beach, where the only oil you’re seeing is from a bottle with high SPF levels, so you can rub it on your legs.

For most beach-goers, assessing a beach is simple. Is the sand good for castle construction? Is ice cream readily available? Is the water warm and relatively jellyfish-free? If not, no problem–there are plenty of other beaches in the sea.

But what about a truly special beach? One with unique physical features–such as sand comprised of tiny, star-shaped shells or a stunning mountain backdrop–where the water is super clean and the sand isn’t in danger of vanishing because solid environmental management policies are in place? And let’s not forget the opportunity to swim with dolphins, snorkel over barrier reefs and spot birds and other local wildlife.

All ten beaches were chosen for their unique geologic features, innovative management practices and progressive environmental safeguards. None of them are currently designated Blue Flag or Blue Wave, for the most part because they haven’t been developed to the extent necessary for certification. We suggest you go before they are.

Click here for a look at a few of the world’s breathtaking beaches.

Are you a fan of Angel Island? TourismCares.org cleans up the island and hopes you can join their mission. Hear this amazing story of commitment to preserving our future.
