Okay, so you’ve just decided to get rid of an old piece of electronics, but you don’t know where to dispose of it. Nothing’s listed in your local Yellow Pages, you can’t call the morgue, and the town dump won’t take it. Where do you turn? How about your iPhone?
First, allow me if you will. I’m so happy that Hart of Green is slapping the green out of me! What does that mean? Pretty simple. I wasn’t blogging anything green just a few weeks ago and have opened this blog and shared as many of my real time experiences in hopes it helps you or perhaps entertains you. If I can entertain, inform, and inspire you to take action and enjoy this new found respect for how wonderful it is to be aware of green, then I’m good.
Here’s the deal.
Have you been thru the experience of wanting to dump your old 1974 looking monitor that weighs more than you do? Oh good. I’m not alone. This box is a beast!
Just today when I ran into this site, a great sense of relief washed over me with a place to finally dump this computer. I was dreading having to take time to find where, how much, blah blah blah just to get rid of this ugly box sitting in my living room. I’ve been to lazy to take it downstairs to the garage. Nonetheless, I wanted to express gratitude for this blog in its raising my awareness of thinking green. Imagine how good this feels. In just a few short weeks, I went from not giving a hoot about green to living in green with a local recycler today that will accept this toxic tank. Who knew that these monitors would be so out dated just years after their conception.
So, look around the office and house and decide what you plan to recycle. Use iRecycle site to find a close location.
The new iRecycle app taps into Earth911.com’s extensive network of recycling options. Just type in your location and what you’re seeking to recycle and the iRecycle app will tell you the nearest locations that will take your electronics, plastics, paper, batteries, motor oil … and just about anything else!
Not only that, the app automatically generates directions to get you to the recycling site, and can even place a phone call for you so you can make sure the place is open. (That last option won’t be available if you’re just using an iPod Touch like me, but I can live with that.)
I downloaded the iRecycle app today and gave it a test spin. It’s just as easy as Earth911’s web site, and provides great, detailed information. Now I can find out where to recycle things without turning on my PC, which uses a heck of a lot more power than using my iPod for a minute or two.
Give it a try. This is definitely an iPhone must-have.
