Greenest Cities in the World with Jerry Hart on Smart Green Travel on Green 960 AM San Francisco

capitol_gate_-hotel

Abu Dhabi is the Arab world’s top green city

Who’s recycling more and “trashing” less? Smart Green Travel visits the top green cities and few runners up who have made the most impressive strides toward eco-friendliness and sustainability. Factors are air, the climate, our health, the landscape and the habitat.

When a city accepts as a mandate its quality of life; when it respects the people who live in it; when it respects the environment; when it prepares for future generations, the people share the responsibility for that mandate, and this shared cause is the only way to achieve that collective dream.

These metropolises aren’t literally the greenest places on earth — they’re not necessarily dense with foliage, for one, and some still have a long way to go down the path to sustainability. But all of these cities deserve recognition for making impressive strides toward eco-friendliness, helping their many millions of residents live better, greener lives

Some of what you’ll hear on this weeks Smart Green Travel include:

  • Five years after Katrina, New Orlean’s Ninth Ward is most likely now the greenest neighborhood in the world
  • Oslo, Norway’s buses run on fuel generated from human waste
  • London has set stiff taxes on personal transportation to limit congestion in the central city, hitting SUVs heavily and letting electric vehicles and hybrids off scot-free.
  • Copenhagen is now the first Scandinavian city to put a mandatory green roof policy into action
  • Austin, Texas, for it’s artistic flare that has made this one of the most “livable” cities in the country
  • Boulder, Colorado named the thinnest city in America
  • San Francisco opens bike paths on Market Street and citywide that are continuous and do not peter out
  • Oakland’s Oaksterdam surpasses Holland. I’ll explain in Part 2 of this episode of  Smart Green Travel

Swimming with Dolphins in the Wild on Smart Green Travel with Jerry Hart on Green 960am San Francisco

ric-o-barryDolphins! Have you spoken to anyone who swims with them in the wild frequently? On Smart Green Travel, you’ll hear Lisa Alpine share spectacular play by play details of water dancing with the dolphins and what she describes as dolphin daycare,  in Hawaii, where pods of dolphin parents drop their baby dolphin kids off near shore, while they go out to grab lunch and dinner. Plus, a beautiful interactive story of what happens when hundreds of dolphins arrive in front of you, with their kids in tow, and what ensues from there.

Meanwhile, there’s nothing cute about this.  It’s hard to believe any country would still allow dolphin hunting.  At the Cove in Taiji, the dolphin killing continues. Although the killing of bottlenose dolphins -  slaughtered for meat by the Taiji fishermen starts September 1st in Japan, the fight for the protection of all marine mammals goes on. Sign the petition with SaveJapanDolphins.org as Smart Green Travel joins Ric O’ Barry’s heroic efforts to expose the plight of dolphins worldwide  and save these innocent precious creatures.

Green Aquariums

Where can you climb through the layers of the rain forest and descend into a 100,000 gallon “Flooded Forest” tank, where freshwater fish cruise overhead? Where can you see a 2 ½ acre Living Roof, an expansive solar canopy, an extensive water reclamation system, and walls insulated with recycled blue jeans? Only in San Francisco!

Smart Green Travel takes you to the Greenest Aquariums in the country, including San Francisco’s Steinhart Aquarium, the largest green public platinum-rated building in the world, for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Special Highlight! “Penguins and Pajamas”. Overnight sleep overs this fall and winter, at the Aquarium.

Then, down to L.A. and the “Aquarium of the Pacific” in Los Angeles ,where guests hop onto big boats to go whale watching.  And, the “Tennessee Aquarium”, celebrating green consciousness and connectedness to mammals and animals, saving extinct endangered species, including the “Redneck Turtle”. no pun intended

A Virtual Tour into a Deeply Green Germany, then, to where Columbus set sail from Italy, on Smart Green Travel with Jerry Hart on Green 960 AM San Francisco

Carbon neutral: the 'fairy tale' castle of Neuschwanstein

Carbon neutral: the 'fairy tale' castle of Neuschwanstein

Yes. We know from German folklore (think Hansel and Gretel, and Little Red Riding Hood) that the forest, or Wald, was an important part of life in Germany’s past. With forest still covering 31 per cent of the country – almost three times as much as the UK – the nation is deeply green.

It is also way ahead in terms of “green” issues. Germany recycles three-fifths of domestic waste compared to about one-fifth here; there are now only 150 landfill sites in Germany, compared with 50,000 in the early Seventies.

If you are choosing the nation at the heart of Europe initially for its environmentally friendly credentials, you are in for a treat in terms of the green and open spaces it offers. Germany has one-third more people than Britain, but the population density is lower and more rural.

PLUS!
What happens at Oktoberfest, stays at Oktoberfest.

I want to go to Italy, and you will too, after you indulge yourself, listening to the voice, heart and soul behind VistaNuova.com

Smart Green Travel sparks your artistic curiosity, at the exact spot Columbus set sail from Italy.

I heard it through the Green Grapevine on Smart Green Travel with Jerry Hart on Green 960 AM San Francisco

American’s pair wine with food, while Europeans pair wine with life. The numbers speak for themselves. Whether you’re like me, a novice with wine, or a connoisseur, the FACT IS:

Europeans drink 28 gallons of wine per year, per person. American’s drink 3 gallons of wine per year.

What can we embrace from other cultures that do both?; pair wine with food, and, pair wine with life.

Hear from the smallest, to the largest green wineries on Smart Green Travel, providing all kinds of ways to evaluate how they’re going green, and offering such great combination’s  of antiquated farming techniques, with modern technology to offer you authentic carbon-offsets.

A green winery is only as green as the companies values, consciousness and ethics. Meaning, does the winery invest in projects that truly reduce emissions, and at the same time benefit the employees,  local populations and Eco-systems?

If you miss Smart Green Travel every Saturday, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, on Green 960 AM or, on the Web at TheGreenMorning.com, then count on Hart of Green.com to help you connect with fresh green news, for example, we shine the eco-spotlight on….

  • America’s first carbon-neutral winery
  • Green wineries, sustainable using 100 percent solar and wind power
  • Synthetic-chemical-free farming
  • Integrated pest management - Now, there’s a reason to celebrate what’s organic at Green Wineries!

These Green Vineyard Thought Leaders, working each day in their gift, and with their love for living green, will leave your palette craving your favorite wine, and incentives to make immediate plans for a stay-cation at your next Green Winery close to home

Smart Green Travel is nudging you to get away from your work, for a day or so, grab the ones you love, and truly be in touch with your inner voice and nature, right here in our Bay Area backyard.

Green Adventures in the Air with Jerry Hart on Smart Green Travel on Green 960 AM San Francisco

zepplin-comparisonHave you seen this behemoth white whale in the sky over the Bay Area? FYI, I was also informed we are not to confuse Blimps, with a Zepplin Air Ship. Yes, at the top of that illustration to the left, the AirShip nearly dwarfs our largest jumbo jets. The Zepplin company, that also built the Hindenburg, is not the same Airship our Great Grandpa’s engineered at the Zepplin plant back in 1925. And, it’s significantly Green, in many ways, one of the safest aircraft in the sky. Who knew? Blimps and Airships, how are they Green, and what’s the difference between the two?

The Zepplin is the largest, and only AirShip in North America, for the average Joe, like you and I, to see the Bay Area, like no other 360 degree visual experience possible.  Some have described it as a ‘personal cloud’ or ‘knowing what birds feel like’. Find out how Airships are a significant part of a post Green world, for example, right now,  one big-momma-of-a-Zepplin-Airship, is assisting in the clean up of our oil spill in the Gulf.

Hot Air Balloonitics - Welcome Aboard!
From Hang Gliding, to Gliders, to Green Hemp Hot Air Balloons, blowing hot air in Sonoma County, Smart Green Travel is soaring, with the help of the thermals, like a Falcon over Mt. Tamalpais, and will lift you to virtual heights. If you feel like someone else can do that crazy-in-the-air stuff, than Smart Green Travel, can serve as a reminder, of what it is you REALLY want.

It can give you courage and self-confidence to actually “GO FOR IT”, and know that personally, what you want to commit your life too, those far away dreams, CAN become reality in your life. A fresh new mindset of awakening, and self-love, to do the unexpected, for your sustainable soul. Now that’s what I call GREEN.

Come glide, fly, jump, balloon into this weeks Smart Green Travel, aired Saturday’s from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, with Jerry Hart, on Green 960 AM San Fransisco, or stream at www.TheGreenMorning.com
